Our Story

The “Casa Cordero” as it was previously known before becoming a Boutique Hotel is one of the most valuable properties in Cuenca and a City Heritage, due to its history as well as for its architecture. Built towards the end of the 19^th Century, it belonged to Enrique Cordero, son of Ecuador’s former President, the illustrious Cuenca born Dr. Luis Cordero.

With the property’s new owner, the distinguished Cuenca dame Rocio Vasquez Alcazar, the Mansion begins a new stage on its history. In 1999 she leads a complete restoration of the stately home, carefully securing that all the architectonic and decoration-style details are maintained, so they conserve the seal of luxury and distinction that characterized the original mansion. Opened officially as a Boutique Hotel for the most demanding and refined national and international public in 2001, Mansion Alcazar has become since then and until present date as one of the top benchmarks of luxury Hotels in the city and in Ecuador as well as a model of the highest service quality, alongside with the traditional hospitality of Cuenca’s people.

Classic and Contemporary

While keeping up with the house’s original style, the recognized decorator Isa Marina Seifert de Carvalho rescued and recreated the splendor of the early Republic’s epoch and gracefully filled the public areas and hotel rooms with the finest ornaments and pieces of great artistic value.

She redecorated each one of the bedrooms to convert them into unique and different, with a style that combines to perfection the classic touches with the contemporary needs. Each room and suite have their own identity and a name that christens it, thus offering to the guests a unique experience on each visit. On each one of the 23 rooms you breathe the enchanting aroma of the old world while it provides all the modern facilities required by the voyagers of the 21^st Century within an ambiance of elegance and good taste, an unforgettable experience for every guest.

An oasis of greenery in the heart of the historic center

The Mansion is one of the few houses in Cuenca’s Historic Center that still conserves its original interior gardens, alive with trees and lovely flowers, varied vegetation and a natural atmosphere that attracts dozens of species of birds who live and visit the gardens to delight the guests with their colorfulness and merry songs.

With a good dose of vision, a part of the garden was adapted to convert it into a placid pergola that invites to escape from the streets’ noise, to enjoy your favorite book, a relaxed tea in the afternoon or an al-fresco meal, all in an ambiance of pure nature and simply soothing tranquility.
